Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut each into strips slightly wider than the hot dogs.
- Wrap each hot dog tightly with a strip of puff pastry, overlapping slightly to cover the entire length. Press gently to seal the edges to prevent unwrapping during baking.
- Place the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly. Brush the pastry lightly with the beaten egg for a shiny, golden finish.
- If desired, cut small strips from leftover puff pastry and arrange them across the hot dogs to resemble bandages, then attach with a little egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown with a flaky texture. Keep an eye to prevent burning.
- Once baked, remove the mummy hot dogs from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm, with optional seasonings like smoked paprika for extra flavor.
Notes
For extra spookiness, add small dots of mustard or ketchup as 'eyes' on the mummies before serving.
