Ingredients

  • 2 cups store-bought cake crumbs crumbled finely
  • 1/2 cup frosting any flavored, for binding
  • 8 oz good quality chocolate for coating, melted
  • 1 tsp red gel food coloring to create bloodshot eye look
  • small edible black marker or toothpick for veiny details
  • pinch coconut oil optional, for smoothing chocolate coating

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Lollipop sticks or skewers

Method

  1. Combine the cake crumbs with frosting in a mixing bowl, kneading until the mixture is uniform and moldable. This creates a dough that’s easy to shape.
  2. Scoop out portions of the mixture and roll them into small, oval-shaped balls that resemble miniature eyeballs. Place them on a lined tray and chill in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to firm up.
  3. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring until smooth. Stir in a splash of coconut oil if you want a shinier, smoother coating.
  4. Dip each chilled cake ball into the melted chocolate, using a fork or skewer to coat completely. Tap off excess and insert a lollipop stick or skewer into each to create your eyeballs.
  5. Once dipped, place the coated cake pops upright on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate again until the chocolate is set and glossy.
  6. Use a drop of red gel food coloring in the edible marker or a toothpick to draw bloodshot veins and details on each eyeball, making it look unsettlingly realistic.

Notes

For added creepy effect, vary the vein patterns and intensities. Keep your chocolate not too hot to avoid melting the details or smudging the bloodshot lines. Enjoy your spooky, creepy treats!
